Talking about the latest $100M aquisition of the hometown team, I was struck by the vagaries of supply and demand that pay someone who plays a game 1000 times more than a firefighter, doctor, teacher or other profession. Personally, I'd rather have a firefighter/paramedic nearby if I suffered a cardiac arrest, rather than an extremely 'valuable' baseball player. And I'd probably have a better time playing ball with the firefighter as well! Curmudgeons unite.
